1st Convocation Ceremony of Masters in Emergency Medicine (MEM) at AMRI Hospitals


Bhubaneswar: AMRI Hospitals, Bhubaneswar awarded Master of Emergency Medicine (MEM) to the 5 students in its first batch 10th July 2018 at the 1st Convocation Ceremony held at AMRI Hospitals, Bhubaneswar. The Convocation Ceremony was attended by Mr Lakshmi Narayan Reddy Chinnam, VP, Unit Head, AMRI Hospitals Bhubaneswar, Dr. B.N Mishra, Chairman, Medical Advisory Board , AMRI Hospitals, Dr. Sajid Nomani, Course Director, George Washington University, USA (GWU)-MEM and Consultants from various specialties of the Hospital.
In continuation of its commitment to bringing world-class healthcare to all citizens, Mr Lakshmi Narayan Reddy Chinnam, VP, Unit Head, AMRI Hospitals, Bhubaneswar congratulated the students on successful completion of their MEM residency and appreciated the role of emergency physicians in ensuring quick and life saving treatment to the patients . “India is the second most populous country in the world with limited healthcare infrastructure resulting in a growing disparity between the numbers of patients per doctor. In such an atmosphere, Emergency Physicians are a growing need. 
He hoped that graduating students will contribute to solve India’s healthcare scenario” he said. He appreciated the role of George Washington University, USA for their contribution towards training of new budding Emergency Physicians in India and stressed on continuous commitment of AMRI Hospitals Bhubaneswar towards such an academic programs in order to provide most updated and state of art healthcare services to the people of Odisha.

Dr. Sajid Nomani, Course Director and Head of Department, Institute of Emergency Medicine, AMRI Hospitals Bhubaneswar asserted that the graduating students have received necessary competency training in Emergency Medicine and the need of such skilled physicians is enormous. He expressed his pride in successful running of a 3 year well structured Emergency training for the first time in the state of Odisha and he is confident that with such continued academic effort , every Emergency Department will get trained and qualified Emergency Physicians.

This batch of 5 students had commenced their MEM residency in 2015. During their 3 year residency, the students underwent training in various medical and surgical specialties and received regular hands on training by International Faculties from George Washington University, USA. They successfully completed their exit examination held at Delhi between 27th-29th June 2018 and successfully presented their research thesis in front of internationally acclaimed experts in Emergency Medicine.

Department of Emergency Medicine, AMRI Hospitals, Bhubaneswar is one of the largest Emergency Department in the state manned by a team of well qualified and trained Emergency Physicians , Emergency Nurses and Paramedics providing updated and protocolized emergency medical services to more than 12000 patients in a year. It is successfully running a 3 year Masters in Emergency Medicine residency in collaboration with faculty from the Ronal Reagan Institute of Emergency
Medicine at the George Washington University,USA. It has numerous publications in the internationally acclaimed journals to its credit.
