Summer Guide to Healthy Hair & Scalp For Your Baby

Just like we take care of babies during summer to keep their bodies cool and refreshed, it is important to pay attention to their scalp and hair to keep dry and flaky skin at bay, which is a common concern among newborns. A baby’s delicate skin is highly susceptible to these skin conditions along with sweating, especially during seasonal changes. This makes it imperative for parents to practice and incorporate a hair care routine to soothe their tender scalp and ensure healthy hair.
We all are aware that baby’s hair and scalp is sensitive, which makes it vulnerable to irritation. Moreover, during summer, the scalp is prone to sweating which leads to discomfort. But these conditions can be managed by ample care such as a gentle head massage with a baby oil and washing the scalp with warm water, suggested by AMRI Hospitals.
Here are two key points that will help you choose the right products for your baby’s hair and scalp:-
1. For an oil massage: While massaging baby’s body, concentrate on the scalp as this helps improve blood circulation. Flaky skin and cradle cap can be managed by gently massaging the scalp with an oil. An oil massage also helps promote sound sleep. It is advisable to use a baby oil which is free from mineral oil and lanolin and is enriched with Olive Oil and Winter Cherry. Vitamin E in Olive Oil helps soften the skin and Winter Cherry helps soothe the skin.
2. Use a shampoo to nourish the hair and scalp: You can opt for a shampoo or a head-to-heel baby wash to clean the hair and scalp. Use a shampoo that can nourish baby’s hair without causing any irritation or tears. A shampoo containing Chickpea, a natural source of protein, helps condition and moisturize the hair, and Hibiscus helps nourish the hair. For a baby wash, you can opt for one that is infused with Watermelon and Neem.
Caring for your baby’s skin and hair could be one of the best moments that you will cherish for days to come.

Weight loss Tips: AMRI Hospitals

Warm water helps in healing the body, improving digestion, metabolism and reducing metabolic waste that may have accumulated in our immune system. Consumption of warm water increases the tightening of the intestines, which improves the process of elimination of toxins and waste from the body. Cold water, on the other hand, is also stripped off of many minerals and can become a problem for the digestive system, especially during and after a meal. It is recommended that people who like to drink cold water do not consume it 20 minutes before and after eating, nor during the meal.
Warm water improves digestion and helps in washing out toxins from the body. Warm water helps to break down food faster and helps to improve digestion. Drinking cold water during or after a meal, can, in fact, make the oils in the food harder and create a fat deposit in the intestines.
Warm water can also help people who suffer from problems like gas and constipation. Bloating and decreased bowel movement is caused due to lack of water in the body. Drinking water, especially warm water can help in improving bowel movement and aid digestion, and help you get rid of problems like constipation. Good digestion is the key to healthy weight loss, and warm water helps in keeping the digestion healthy.
Metabolism plays a very important role in weight loss. Warm water increases body temperature, and thereby also increases metabolic rate. The increased metabolic rate helps burn calories, which is the basis of losing weight. Drinking warm water also improves other functions like that of the kidney and liver.
According to physicians of AMRI Hospitals, Best Hospital in Kolkata recommend drinking warm water with lemon or tea in the morning to decrease the free radical activity in the body, as a means to detox. However, drinking a glass of warm water at any time, especially after your meals can help in the break down of body fat, and also keep cravings away.
Drinking warm water also has other health benefits like alleviating pain, improving blood circulation and also prevent premature ageing.

Keep your body hydrated with 5 Remedies

The summer season can be really harsh on your body, depriving it of water and moisture. Hydration is extremely important for the body as it ensures good health, efficient body functions. Hydration is important to keep the body healthy overall, including special benefits for heart health and weight loss.
The body loses water naturally in the form of urination and excretion through the digestive system. During the summer season, the body sweats a lot, which causes even more loss of water. We, therefore, feel more thirsty during the summer than in the winter. It is important to keep your body hydrated during the summer. Dehydration can lead to problems like a heat stroke in the summer. The best way to hydrate your body is to drink a lot of water, but since it can get really boring since it is tasteless and odorless, here are 5 remedies, apart from water, to keep your body hydrated and stay healthy this summer season.
1. Milk: Milk has a lot of health benefits, especially for growing children as it promotes growth and strength in the body. However, milk can also help avoid dehydration, according to a 2011 study, especially in children. According to health-care consultants of AMRI Hospitals, best hospital in Kolkata milk is a better way of hydrating children than other energy drinks or even water itself. Milk works well for hydration in adults too, and a milk-based drink should definitely be included in your summer day.
2. Orange juice: Orange juice is, in fact, a very hydrating drink and therefore should be a part of everyone’s diet in the summer season. Orange juice, which may not be as effective as milk, contains natural sugar, which can help regain energy lost due to the excess heat.
3. Sweet drinks and crisps: Sweet drinks and crisps sound like a great movie night snack and are in fact very helpful in hydrating your body in the summer. When you sweat, you lose water, and salt from the body. You must include naturally sweet beverages like fruit juices to make up for the energy and water loss, and balance the salt loss with the help of crisps. Prefer baked crisps, made with healthy ingredients over packaged chips.
4. Lemon-ginger tea: Including tea in your diet in the summer season can have some re hydrating effects also. A lemon ginger tea adds salt and sugar to your body and creates a balance. We lose sugar, water and salt in the form of sweat and need to replace it to make sure our body is not dehydrated.
5. Eat your water: Another great way to make up for the lost water in the body, apart from drinking this and that, is to include foods rich in water in your diet. A salad made with water-rich vegetables like cucumbers, and fruits like watermelon, sun melon, etc. can be really hydrating.

International Nurses Day: 5 health Tips to Help Nurses be Physically, Emotionally, and Mentally Fit

International Nurses Day is celebrated on the 12th of May, every year, and celebrates the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, the foundation philosopher of modern nursing. The theme for 2019 International Nurses Day is “Nurses – A voice to Lead – Health for all.” Nurses play a very important role in healthcare, next to the doctors. While the doctors take care of our physical health, nurses monitor patients and give them emotional and mental support to get through the illness.
Nurses all across the world, are, however, over-burdened with work. Apart from their profession, they have personal lives and roles of a daughter, mother or wife, to play. It can be really exhausting for a nurse to keep pace with her professional and personal life. When we talk about “health for all” as a theme for International Women’s Day, how can we leave behind the nurses of the world? The government, hospitals and management should make sure that the nurses of the world are healthy so that they can do a better job at their work, and ensure health for all, suggested by AMRI Hospitals, Best Hospital in Eastern India
1. Support groups: For nurses suffering from mental health issues, or any physical issues, hospitals can help by making support groups where they can talk, vent, and find solutions to their problems among people of their profession and lifestyle. Nurses are also people who could be going through a lot and may need support.
2. Vacations with their families: Nurses, especially women, can feel very over-worked and not find time with their families. It is important for their emotional and mental health to get some time off work, and get some time with the family. Organizations can come up with a periodic vacation for nurses, with their families, where they can unwind and reconnect with your families. It is very important for nurses to be able to work better and be healthy.
3. Health camps: Nurses should also participate in health camps organised by hospitals. They should get themselves tested regularly for any health issues and should get proper medical care in case of any health problems. Prevention of serious health risks like cancer, diabetes, etc. should be promoted for nurses.
4. Work in shifts: The most important bit of a nurse’s job is to be active all the time, to ensure proper monitoring of the patient and to keep everything in check. It is important for the top management to make nurses work in shifts, so they have enough time to rest, sleep, and find time for their family. Over-burden, over-time at work, or over-exhaustion can make them weak, lead to diseases, and hamper their health. Stress and sleep deprivation can also cause mental health issues.

10 Tips to Stay Fit and Healthy in Summer

  1. Eat five times per day. Okay this doesn’t mean chow down five full meals in one day. Space out your recommended calories with three normal meals and two snacks. For instance, have breakfast (within one hour of waking or after a morning workout), lunch, afternoon snack, dinner and one more evening snack. This will speed up your metabolism and prevent your body from going into starvation mode, which causes the body to store fat for future energy.
  2. Drink 8-10 glasses of water, and only water, every day. Cut out all those sugary soft drinks and juices and load up on water. Not only will you save money, cut a large amount of unnecessary sugar from your diet and facilitate fat metabolism, you will end up eating less because water fills you up. So before you devour your long-awaited lunch, chug a full glass of water.
  3. Interval train to save time and burn more fat. Don’t spend hours at the gym to get in shape, switch to interval training for better results and less time on your cardio machine. According to the doctors at AMRI Hospitlas, more calories are burned in short, high intensity exercises. Studies have shown that interval training can help “increase your metabolism, burn calories from fat and carbohydrates, and keep burning calories long after you finish exercising.” For instance, if you like to run for your cardio workout, try alternating jogging and sprinting in two-minute increments. You’ll be surprised at how fast the time goes by compared to your old, long and slow endurance routine.
  4. Exercise as soon as you wake up.Before you raid the refrigerator for breakfast, try squeezing in a morning workout. This is the optimal time to burn fat instead of carbohydrates because your body has been fasting throughout the night, creating a depletion of glycogen (stored carbohydrate) and lower blood sugar. Plus, if you exercise in the morning, you not only burn fat during your workout but at an accelerated rate for hours after.
  5. Choose wheat instead of white. It’s no secret that whole grain/wheat is healthier than white bread. But how can this help you lose weight?Whole grain and whole wheat carbs contain much more fiber than white carbs. This magical ingredient suppresses your appetite, increases your rate of digestion and improves intestinal health.
  6. Stretch every day. How do you think dancers and avid yoga practitioners stay so slim? Stretching helps elongate our muscles so us females don’t “bulk up.” If you exercise, be sure to stretch for at least half the time of your workout.
  7. It takes fat to burn fat. Sounds like an oxymoron, but actually “good fats”(monounsaturated fats), which are found in olive oil, avocados, nuts and omega-3 fatty acids in fish oil, help control your insulin levels, slow down carbohydrates rate of entry into the blood stream and sends a signal to your brain to stop eating, according to doctors at AMRI Hospitals.”.
  8. Eat Breakfast! A common misconception is to skip breakfast to cut daily calories. But actually, studies show that those who eat breakfast actually weigh less than those who skip. According to Meal Matter nutrition, “when you skip breakfast, your metabolic rate slows down and your blood sugar drops. As a result, you become hungry and have less energy. This sets you up to impulsively snack in the morning – often on high-fat sweets – or to eat extra servings or bigger portions at lunch or dinner. When you eat breakfast, your body feels nourished and satisfied, making you less likely to overeat the rest of the day.”
  9. Eat these sweets, consume less sugar. With an all-new and creative caffeinated drink coming out each season, coffee has become more of a liquid dessert than an energy booster. If you’re not a fan of plain coffee or green tea, choose Starbucks’ Skinny Latte, which contains only 90 calories, zero grams of fat and uses sugar-free syrup. For your cookie cravings, try South Beach Diet’s cookies and meal bars. These are not only delicious, but have little to no grams of sugar and are low in calories.
  10. Take home leftovers when dining out. It’s hard to diet when there are so many delicious Valley eateries serving up mouth-watering, and practically euphoric dishes. Don’t feel bad, just be sure to take at least 1/3 of it home for later.

What is a Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery?

Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are unique among dental specialists in a number of ways. After completing four years of dental school, they go on to spend another four years in a hospital-based residency program for surgery. There, they are trained alongside other medical residents in the techniques of emergency medicine, general surgery and anesthesiology. In fact, they are the only health care specialists (aside from anesthesiologists) who can administer all levels of sedation, up to general anesthesia.

Oral and maxillofacial surgeons at AMRI Hospitals focus on treating problems related to the hard and soft tissues of the face, mouth, and jaws (the upper jaw is referred to as the maxilla). While they sometimes work in a hospital, their practices are more often located in comfortable office settings. You may be referred to one of these specialists by your general dentist for a complex tooth extraction. Or, your orthodontist may send you for an examination if he or she suspects a problem with the alignment of your jaws.

It isn’t necessary to have an oral and maxillofacial surgeon perform every type of oral surgery; many dentists are expert at the more common procedures, such as simple extractions. However, for complex treatments that may require more invasive procedures or deeper levels of sedation, these specialists may be recommended. What kinds of procedures are they well-suited to perform? Let’s look at a few.

Procedures Performed by Oral Surgeons

Tooth extractions are possibly the most common procedure that oral surgeons perform. Patients are often referred to these specialists when wisdom teeth are impacted—that is, forming in a position where they can’t erupt or grow into the bite properly. Minor surgery is usually required to remove impacted wisdom teeth, and is generally recommended even if the impacted teeth aren’t (yet) producing any symptoms. Fortunately, this procedure is routine, and it is often done in the dental office using the techniques of sedation dentistry.

Corrective Jaw (Orthognathic) Surgery is sometimes needed when orthodontics is not enough to correct a misaligned bite. In other cases, surgical treatment is necessary to repair congenital abnormalities (birth defects), or to treat severe orthodontic conditions, skeletal problems, and other disorders. In this procedure, usually performed under general anesthesia, the bones of the face and jaw may be reshaped and repositioned, and the jaws and teeth realigned. Oral surgeons often work closely with orthodontists in planning and carrying out this type of surgery, which may be needed when orthodontics alone can’t correct the problem.

Cleft lip /palate surgery is a special type of surgery often performed by oral and maxillofacial surgeons to correct the changes in facial structure caused by this birth defect.
Reconstructive surgery may be necessary after traumatic dental injury or facial trauma, which can result from an auto accident, a workplace injury, and many other causes. This surgery is also sometimes needed following the removal of a tumor or another operation. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons specialize in repairing and reconstructing facial structures, and are adept at working with both hard and soft tissues.

These specialists can also set a solid foundation for cosmetic and restorative dental work, including the placement of dental implants, the system of tooth replacement preferred by many patients. Depending on the condition of the jaw, bone grafting procedures may be required for proper placement of the implants in the jaw. When dentures are the chosen tooth replacement method, oral surgeons can smooth and reshape alveolar (jaw) bone as needed, to ensure a comfortable fit in the mouth.

In addition to these common procedures, oral and maxillofacial surgeons may be called on to consult with cases of obstructive sleep apnea, facial pain and infection, biopsies and removal of lesions, and diagnosis and treatment of some oral cancers. The extensive clinical experience these specialists bring to their patients can provide help when it’s needed most.

AMRI Hospitals, Salt Lake Launches Eastern India’s First Awareness Campaign for Lymphovenous Diseases

LACK OF KNOWLEDGE EVEN AMONG PHYSICIANS LEAVES CONDITIONS UNDETECTED
Kolkata, March 23, 2019: In a first of its kind effort in Eastern India, AMRI Hospitals, Salt Lake launched an awareness campaign on lymphovenous diseases. The campaign has been launched mostly for the benefit of general physicians, general surgeons, and dermatologists, leading surgeons Dr Krishnendu Mukherjee and Dr Jayanta Das, said. The two top surgeons were co-convenors for the workshop on March 23, 2019.
Dr Mukherjee, Head of the Department, Vascular Surgery at AMRI Hospitals, Salt Lake, said, “We have organised the first-ever live demonstration workshop on compression techniques for lymphovenous disorders. LVD is the mother term but within its ambit, it includes diseases like chronic venous inefficiency, varicose veins, and deep vein thrombosis. We plan to continue with such workshops and session so that more and more people within the medical fraternity become aware about lymphovenous diseases. Today’s session was for general physicians and general surgeons.”
Dr Das, Consultant Vascular Surgery, at AMRI Hospitals, Salt Lake, said that the compartmentalisation of healthcare has led to many physicians remaining unaware of developments and advances in other areas of medical sciences other than their respective fields of expertise. This led the vascular surgery department of AMRI HospitalsSalt Lake to launch the awareness campaign on lymphovenous diseases and the associated treatment techniques.
“In most cases, the first symptom of LVD is skin ulcer, which leads most people to visit dermatologists. While in other complaints, general physicians usually direct the patient to the right specialist, be it a cardiologist or a gastroenterologist or even an oncologist. Since only a handful of doctors have an idea in case of LVDs, these often go undetected and cause serious distress to patients. Our endeavour is to raise awareness among doctors and surgeons so that they can prescribe the right treatment or guide a patient to the right specialist,” Dr Das said.
Dr Das further said that while lymphovenous diseases affect almost 3-8 percent people annually, only around 20 percent doctors across the country are aware of its occurrence and its treatment methods. “Doctors without the concept of lymphovenous diseases are failing to properly diagnose LVD because they do not have the necessary knowledge. This is also due to some lacunae in our Under-Graduate medical curriculum. Since they do not get any exposure to LVDs, they move on to Post-Graduate studies with insufficient knowledge,” he said.
Dr Mukherjee said that their department will continue to organise such workshops for physicians and surgeons so that more and more doctors get to know about lymphovenous diseases. Dr Das pointed out that despite the availability of advanced treatments and therapies. Most doctors are unaware of LVD in overall. “Most doctors think of lymphatic diseases and venous diseases as different but they are essentially part of the same group and should be treated in totality under vascular surgery,” he said.
